So today we take a look at counting our blessings during this season of thankfulness.
The blessings that surround us can be lost in the win ...or loss - whichever it may be. We find the emotion of thankfulness easily expressed when the scoreboard has higher digits on our side. However, when the digits end up lower our thankfulness quotient can easily go out the window. Interestingly, both hold blessings...count them - it may ease a sleepless night! As the old hymn says...
"Count your blessings name them one by one...count your blessings see what God has done."
When you give things to your children, which of these responses do you most appreciate? When they accept the gift in silence and go on about their day as if to say "I deserved that" OR ... when they run to you, throw their arms around you and shower showering you with a fountain of thanks. I am going to guess it would be the second response which reveals their grateful hearts.
So it is when we count and re-count the God-given blessings that surround us. Whether it is for a beautiful day, a good night's sleep, a child who recovers from a cold, a loved one whose home-going left a rich imprint on our life . . . whatever it is tell Him ... it's our hug of thankfulness from a heart full of identified blessings.
THANKFULNESS IS NOT ONLY A FEELING BUT SOMETHING WE DO!
"...thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live." I Thessaslonians 5:17-18 MSG
Then re-count and include your spiritual blessings...things like, knowing God, experiencing His love, joy, peace orwalking as one with Him...
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ." Ephesians 1:3 NIV
Blessings...as you count your material and spiritual blessings for a good night's sleep!
