Joy begins within us as a response to a fulfilled desire. As it intensifies it spills out into the world around us erupting into a happy laugh, an expressed exclamation, or a jumping-for-joy reaction revealing our extreme excitement…beyond joy, we become OVERJOYED.
When a needed competition is won, both the team and the fans are extremely excited...OVERJOYED. The faces of fans and players are filled with smiles, the fans respond with affirming shouts, and hugs of elation are spread all around. These squeals and thumbs-up responses are expressions of exceedingly great joy!
Following Christ’s birth into this world there were 3 “fans” that were definitely OVERJOYED! They are referred to in scripture as Magi...wise men from the east.
When they saw the star, they were OVERJOYED. Matthew 2:10
Why was this band of scholars so OVERJOYED? Because it had been foretold that a certain star in the East would signal the birth of the promised king of the Jews. Now it had appeared and would lead them to the long-awaited and promised One.
To express their great joy these worshipers brought treasures to honor this child as their king...
On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Matthew 2:11
SOMETHING TO PONDER: Are you OVERJOYED at our Savior’s birth? If so, what treasures do you give Him to celebrate His entrance into your world? Is it your skills, your abilities, your wealth, your time, or your possessions?
PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, today I am OVERJOYED by your presence in my life. Today I bring You my treasured (fill in the blank) and lay it as a gift before you. It is with squeals-of-joy that I celebrate your Son’s entrance into this world and into my life as my Savior! In His name I pray, Amen.
BE OVERJOYED...HE LIVES IN YOU!
