The words ‘I love you’ have become very common. On Mother’s Day this expression of care and concern will be written on cards everywhere to Mom’s who have lived out SURPASSING LOVE.
When our youngest daughter was 13 years old, she decided to ‘help’ me one day while I was at work. Having seen me dust many times, she gathered the needed items together and began to clean the previously well-oiled wood furniture. Being very proud of her accomplishment, she beamed as I walked through the door. Her comment when I discovered that she used “ammonia enhanced Windex” instead of orange oil was, “I’m sorry…I didn’t know what to use but I tried my best so I knew it wouldn’t matter because you love me.” She expected SURPASSING LOVE…and she got it while I did something about it by giving the furniture a strong application of oil!
Loving care and concern makes a sport team strong no matter what mistakes may be made on the fields and courts of play. A quick ‘I’m sorry’ or ‘my bad’ with the secure knowledge that the coach and teammates are on their side is all it takes to move on toward the next play or game.
Christ came to say ‘I love you’ and promises to do something about it in ways that surpass our expectations. It is with this in mind that I kneel before my Heavenly Father and pray these words from scripture for each Sportmom today …
“… that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God… [who] is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us…” Ephesians 3:16-20
