Life BEHIND THE BENCH has brought many opportunities to practice CONFIDENT HOPE. As a young, newly married coach's wife I could be found in the women's restroom during the last 3 minutes of a game that we needed to win unable to face the outcome with confidence. Moving beyond this response brought me to the blame game - always something (poor ref calls) or someone's (a player's off night) fault. After finding this completely hopeless, I turned to acceptance almost to the point of denial - over correction for sure!
After a few years it finally struck me - my confidence had been placed solely in my husband as the coach and his players leaving me with only a shadow of hope. It was time to place these games into the hands of my Savior - each one strategically given over to Him as many times as it took leading up to it and during the game play. Although my heart races as the unknown outcome approaches, I now have a CONFIDENT HOPE that it is all in my Heavenly Father's plan which puts my spirit at ease and causes my focus to remain positive.
Between now and March 5th I am once again challenged to practice confident hope. My husband's team will be facing Oregon State 3A Boys Basketball Playoffs. It will require focus, patience, preparedness, and perspective to negotiate through this time both for him and for me . . . and we will do it together with CONFIDENT HOPE in our great God! Whatever the outcome it is in His awesome plan. GO HAWKS!
