Sometimes I feel like it is a day to just DO NOTHING...a down time! With those intentions, in my robe and with slippers on, it never seems to quite turn out that way. There is always something that catches my eye to work on…fixing, cleaning, straightening or even writing. The DO NOTHING plan usually fails miserably but the outcome accomplishes good things.
Athletes have planned and unplanned down times. They are generally very short and serve as an energy-gathering source for explosive on-field or on-court practice or games…a good kind of DO NOTHING.
These scriptures offer God's DO NOTHING directive…
DO NOTHING through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themselves. Philippians 2:3 (paraphrased) Click here to Read More...
DO NOTHING that makes you think more highly of yourself than you ought to think. Romans 12:3 (paraphrased)
Paul is reminding us of a good kind of DO NOTHING…the kind that shows true humility and the mind of Christ in us. The key is to keep our eyes focused on Jesus while looking for good and right responses. In this way we can look at the recent terror attacks in Paris and take their pain as our own. Doing this we recognize our own vulnerability and avoid selfish ambition and vain conceit.
PRAYER: I want to DO NOTHING that promotes me, Lord. Lifting Jesus up for the world to see is my intention, joy and privilege. Let me see you in those around me and keep my thoughts humble by your spirit within me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
