As my grandchildren and I drive along we often play the game our family played when we took long trips…the game of I SPY. One person chooses an object saying, “I spy something that is (give a color clue here).” Then the others in the car try to guess what it is. Whoever guesses it first gets to choose the next object and so on. This time-consuming activity has kept many-a child focused on something other than their siblings which, in turn, cuts down on in-car rivalries and often-expressed boredom. Focusing their attention on the suggested objects is a sure thing in maintaining a collective peace – at least for the moment.
All sports have an I SPY component to them. Focusing on the play at hand (not the last one or the one yet to come) is necessary in all attempts to score as a team moves up and down the courts and fields of play. The ultimate game outcome can be majorly impacted in a good way when each team member’s focus remains steady throughout a competition.
Spiritual I SPY happens when we stay our attention upon the Lord. It provides a focus that enables us to see life at it’s best, cultivates a forgiving heart, keeps our thoughts honorable and grows a faith that is steadfast.
