REACH OUT

7/17/2013

July summer supplement highlighting our 2013 WORD OF THE YEAR "REACH".

When our daughters were toddlers, they would constantly REACH OUT for me.  In those precious moments they either needed something, wanted something or were afraid of something. It was a warm fuzzy moment for me to be able to protect them, provide for them or spoil them.

Our youngest child was about 9 months old when she came down with pneumonia.  Her temperature soared in the middle of the night to 104 degrees.  Upon calling the Doctor for directives, we gave her the prescribed amount of baby aspirin and gently placed her in a cool tub of water. She was unusually accepting of the process but longingly reached out for us.  Soon I heard a russle behind me…it was her father getting ready to enter the cool water with her.  He slid into place beside her he saying, “If she has to do it, I have to do it!”

This is a perfect picture of what happens when we REACH OUT to our Heavenly Father in times of need.  Jesus is there to step into the tub of our situation.

Jesus' disciple Peter had a "REACH OUT" experience.  Here is the account...

Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.”
“Yes, come,” Jesus said.
So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus.  But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted.
Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?”
  Matthew 14: 28-31 NLT

Focusing on the terrifying waves rather than the One in charge of them was Peter's downfall.  As he reached out to Jesus, his faith was strong.

Are you sinking today? Like Peter, have fears have overcome you?  Jesus is waiting for you to REACH OUT to Him and He is ready to REACH OUT to you!  The words of an old song come to mind...

Is your burden heavy as you bear it all alone?
Does the road your travel  harbor dangers yet unknown?
Are you growing weary in the struggle of it all?
Jesus will help you when on His name you call.

He is always there hearing every prayer faithful and true
Walking by our side in His love we hide all the day through…
When you get discouraged just remember what to do -
Reach out to Jesus, He’s reaching out to you.

Blessings…as you quickly REACH OUT to Jesus – He’s ready to climb in the tub with you!

Hey Janet~ Your story about a sick Jayme and Dave crawling in the tub with her, touched me deeply - especially the thought that our Heavenly Father willingly does the same for us. . .I'm going to go dry my eyes now and blow my nose! Thanks for sharing it! Love you~
