“I am practicing the discipline of not having to have the last word.” Dallas Willard
Coaches have what they refer to as their “philosophy” regarding their approach to teaching and mentoring their players. Knowing the game is the first requirement followed by wrapping that knowledge in character and purpose. Effective coaches are able to express this knowledge accurately and consistently to a team…it’s all in THE APPROACH.
We are given directives in the book of Ecclesiastes regarding our approach as we learn about God and communicate with Him …
Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong. Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few. Eccl.5:1-2 NIV
Carefully listening and purposefully expressing ourselves to Him is the key … it is all in THE APPROACH.
When we can’t find the words to express ourselves to God, we have the Holy Spirit who intercedes for us directly from our heart to the heart of God…
And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. Romans 8:26 NLT
PRAYER: May my words be few and my heart be heard as I come before you. Thank you for hearing me and knowing me as I approach you. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
THE HONORABLE APPROACH NEEDS NO LAST WORD!
