BEYOND THE BEND

It was mid 1800's in Boston that an extremely significant event in American Christianity took place. Edward Kimball, a dedicated Christian, became acquainted with a young man named Dwight, who worked in a shoe store in the city. One day Kimball went to the shoe store with he God-inspired purpose to share Jesus and God's plan of salvation with the young man.  Finding Dwight in the back wrapping shoes, Kimball told him how he could receive Jesus as his personal Savior. Dwight listened attentively, responded to Kimball's gospel plea, repented and placed his trust in Jesus right then!   Not too much later, as Kimball's mentoring of the young convert continued, he challenged Dwight with the following words:

"Dwight L. Moody, there is no limit to what God can do with a man who is YIELDED and WILLING to do His will!"

Moody looked him in the eye and replied:

"By the grace of God, Edward, I am determined to be that man!"

And that is exactly what Moody did. He moved to Chicago where he began preaching the Gospel and witnessing to others. Before long he quit the dead-end shoe business.  It became a bend in the road of his life toward becoming one of the World's greatest evangelists, with literally tens of thousands of eternal souls won as a result!

One life, lived beyond the bend, changed the lives of thousands and thousands for eternity.  May my life from BEHIND THE BENCH always focus beyond the bend.
