TUNED IN ...

Life BEHIND THE BENCH requires a "tuned in" skill.  As a coach's wife, I find that purposefully  tuning myself in to the important aspects of a game is vital.  Hearing the official's calls, listening for time-out calls, being alert to the sound of a buzzer or whistle along with the roars of fan support keep me responsibly "tuned in".

There are times when I have chosen to tune myself into the disconcerting aspects of a game environment...negative fan comments to official calls, distractions in the stands, an extra-loud band, too long of a half-time or a miss-qued cheer.  When this occurs I am no longer able to remain focused on the game itself which leads to a negative environment of my own creation. What happens after that? I'll leave that to your imagination.

Staying "tuned in" then, is a decision I have to make.  It is one of my responsibilities ... and so is life BEHIND THE BENCH
.
