MOMMY CURVE

5/8/2019

Picture
With Mother’s Day around the corner, we may find ourselves nostalgically reflecting on the past, dutifully handling the present and even day dreaming about the future.  The stages of our Mommy-hood become more and more evident as our children grow up.  The MOMMY CURVE looks like this...

Our spiritual journey is similar to the MOMMY CURVE.  As we process through a challenge our prayers may look like this…

Phase 1 - “Jesus, I know you are there."                                                                                     Phase 2 - “I’ll try, Lord.”                                                                                                               Phase 3 - “This is really hard!”                                                                                                     Phase 4 - “I can’t do this.”                                                                                                           Phase 5 - “Help me, Lord!”                                                                                                           Phase 6 - “I can only do it with you.”                                                                                           Phase 7 - “Don’t ever leave me."                                                                                                 Phase 8 - “I surrender it all to you.”

“…surrender your pride and power… Change your hearts before the Lord…”      Jeremiah 4:4 NLT
THE CURVE BALLS OF LIFE REQUIRE SWEET SURRENDER.

LIGHT UP YOUR WORLD

2019 WORD FOR THE YEAR...SHINE!

For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6  NLT

“This little light of mine – I’m gonna let it shine!”  These words are from a song I sang as a small child in Sunday School....perhaps you did too.  Holding my pointing finger high in the air along with the other children, we would belt out these words at the top of our lungs.  Interestingly, I had no clue as to what ‘letting that light shine’ really meant or why it even needed to shine...now I know!

We began today with our verse for 2019.  It quotes God’s 1st proclamation as He created all things...

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.  Genesis 1:3 NIV

Just as our Heavenly Father spoke light into a yet dark world at creation, Jesus speaks light into our lives today when he said...

You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.        Matthew 5:14-15 NLT

And there will be light – His light – to shine through us as we do His work here on this earth.  But there is one thing we must do - we must LET it shine through!

In the same way, LET your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.  Matthew 5:16 NIV

PRAYER:  Father, God, creator of all light, thank you for your light.  Just as you spoke it into this world in the beginning, you long to speak light into my life today.  I surrender my own light to you and choose to LET your light shine through me.  In all I do and say, may you be praised. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

LET IT SHINE – LET IT SHINE...ALL THE TIME!
