ABOUND...in EVERYTHING!

12/28/2016

Our final post in 2016 encompasses our Word for the Year - ABOUND.  We close the last 3 days of this year with the first 3 words of our ABOUND scripture reference …

"…ABOUND
IN EVERYTHING – in faith,  in words,  in knowledge, in diligence,  in love toward one another - always remembering  to abound in grace…"
  2 Corinthians 8:7

I love an “everything” bagel.  It begins as a plain bagel but is topped with a halo of seeds...a delectable morsel!    Add to it some cream cheese and strawberry jam and it is a scrumptious treat.

Like the everything bagel, when we add faith, knowledge, diligence, love and grace to our everyday living we ABOUND in EVERYTHING.  This sets our spiritual taste buds into motion to do the best at whatever comes our way. St. Peter gives us an “add-to” recipe for abounding in everything...

…make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.                       2 Peter 1:5-7 NIV

The result?  Effective, productive, Christ-like living…

For if these things are yours and ABOUND, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.  2 Peter 1:8 RSV

And finally, be faithful in your abounding…

A faithful (wo)man shall abound with blessings…  Proverbs 28:20 KJV

WEAR A HALO - ABOUND IN EVERYTHING GOD HAS FOR YOU!

Oh the JOYof Christ’s birth!  It fills our hearts this holy season just as the angel announced it would so long ago...

“I bring you good news that will cause great JOYfor all the people.”   Luke 2:10 NIV

JOYfor His sacrifice on the cross for the sins of this world and mine…

“Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your  JOY. “  John 16:22 NIV

JOY for His daily presence in our lives …
The life-maps of God are right, showing the way to JOY.   Psalm 19:8 The Message

JOYfor the place He is preparing for us...
I go to prepare a place for you…And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also.  John 14:2-3 NRSV

Our JOYis made complete in Jesus…
Ask and you will receive, and your JOY will be complete. John 16:24 NIV

                                                       JESUS COMPLETES OUR JOY!

GIFT OF PEACE

12/14/2016

Picture
Peace is something longed for but often eludes us. It cannot be contrived but rather is born in the hearts of humankind.

Two artists were once asked to paint a picture of peace. One painted a golden field of grain wafting in the gentle wind with birds flying through a blue and cloudless sky…it was labeled “PEACE”.  The other artist painted a raging waterfall with jagged rocks and gushing waters.  In the crag of a rock behind the treacherous and pounding water he painted a mother bird in a nest and labeled his painting “PEACE”.  The gift this artist gave to the world was recognizing when and how peace is present.

As sportmoms, we can make our homes a warm and safe nest in the turbulent stress of game day or after a tough loss.  This GIFT OF PEACE provides a place for protection, warmth and recovery.

God expressed His ultimate desire for peace by sending His Son to us.  It is recorded in the angels’ clear and unmistakable message to the shepherds that first Christmas night...

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. Luke 2:14 KJV

Jesus’ own words also reflect the heralding angels’ message…

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace.” John 16:33

Just as the Wise Men from the East brought gifts to Jesus the Christ child, so Christ brings his gift of peace to us…

For Christ himself has brought peace to us.  Ephesians 2:14a

Experiencing a nest of rest while things around us gush with treacherous possibilities happens when we rely on God’s presence in and through it.  It is in doing this that we accept His GIFT OF PEACE.

PRAYER:  I don’t ask that the jagged rocks and pounding waterfalls of life be taken away, Lord.  But I do ask you to help me find the place where your GIFT OF PEACE can abound.  There I will rest allowing your peace to overwhelm my soul.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.  Psalm 34:14 NIV

GOD’S UNMISTAKEABLE GIFT OF PEACE IS FOUND IN THE CRAGS OF LIFE!

SPARKLE AND GLITZ

12/7/2016

Picture

SPARKLE AND GLITZ is all around at Christmastime. Ribbon that sparkles, ornaments adorned with glitz, houses with bright lights, glowing candles in windows, and sweatshirts bedecked with lighted and twinkling decorations.  All of these “light-ups” and more signal festivity and merriment as we anticipate the day of celebration.

Athletes are known for their SPARKLE AND GLITZ on the courts and fields of play.  Radiating drive, determination and a strong will to win, they carry out their expertise with an obvious sparkle of intention that lights up their every move.

SPARKLE AND GLITZ was a part of Christ’s birth.  The first Christmas “light-up” was experienced by sheepherders out in the middle of a field one night.  It wasn’t created by glitter or twinkling lights but by an angel of the Lord announcing our Savior’s birth.  This was followed by a choir of angels who lit up the night sky signaling His long-awaited coming…

“…and God’s glory blazed around them.” Luke 2:8&9 The Message

The shepherds were awe-struck by the SPARKLE AND GLITZ they experienced that night and hurried to Bethlehem to see if what the angel’s message was true a share it…

“When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child.”  Luke 2:17 NIV

As we see, wear and enjoy the SPARKLE AND GLITZ around us this Christmas season, let's remember the first light-up celebrating our Savior’s birth.  May it cause us to spread the good news that the Light of the World has come to save us. God’s Son, born in a manger, showed us the way to live.  He died in our place and rose again ascending to His Father.  Now he prepares a  place for us to live with Him forever…a place with more SPARKLE AND GLITZ than we can ever imagine.

PRAYER: Lord of all eternal SPARKLE AND GLITZ, I want to spread the illuminating light of your glory.  May my life light-up my world because it reflects you.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen

LIGHT-UP YOUR WORLD WITH THE SPARKLE AND GLITZ OF JESUS!
