Wishing you and your a joyous celebration of our Saviors birth...and a wonderful new year ahead!Blessings...Dave and Janet During this holiday season, we see the word “joy” on cards, ornaments and many other Christmas decorations. Joy begins within us as a response to a fulfilled desire. As it intensifies it spills out into the world around us erupting into a happy laugh, an expressed exclamation, or a jumping-for-joy reaction revealing our extreme excitement…beyond joy, we become OVERJOYED. When a needed competition is won, both the team and the fans are extremely excited...OVERJOYED. The faces of fans and players are filled with smiles, the fans respond with affirming shouts, and hugs of elation are spread all around. These squeals and thumbs-up responses are expressions of exceedingly great joy! Following Christ’s birth into this world there were 3 “fans” that were definitely OVERJOYED! They are referred to in scripture as Magi...wise men from the east. When they saw the star, they were OVERJOYED. Matthew 2:10 Why was this band of scholars so OVERJOYED? Because it had been foretold that a certain star in the East would signal the birth of the promised king of the Jews. Now it had appeared and would lead them to the long-awaited and promised One. To express their great joy these worshipers brought treasures to honor this child as their king... On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Matthew 2:11 SOMETHING TO PONDER: Are you OVERJOYED at our Savior’s birth? If so, what treasures do you give Him to celebrate His entrance into your world? Is it your skills, your abilities, your wealth, your time, or your possessions? PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, today I am OVERJOYED by your presence in my life. Today I bring You my treasured (fill in the blank) and lay it as a gift before you. It is with squeals-of-joy that I celebrate your Son’s entrance into this world and into my life as my Savior! In His name I pray, Amen. BE OVERJOYED...HE LIVES IN YOU! ©2017 SPORTMOMS & MORE | 11964 Elemar - Portland, OR 97224 THIS WEEK’S SPORTMOM E-votional is the final post on our word for the year ...CONSIDER. VERSE FOR THE YEAR: But be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you. 1 Samuel 12:24 NIV Healthy fear and reverence for someone requires a humble spirit. Happily serving others requires a heart of sacrifice. Considering what others have done for us requires expressed thankfulness. Together these bring both joy and satisfaction to life. My husband, Coach Brown, has experienced joy and satisfaction from his 50+ years of coaching. The best return is his past players showering him with comments like these... “I had a healthy fear of you when you were my coach and it has carried me through my chosen career.” “You always made us want to please you and we tried our best to do it!” “We always talk about the great wins we had when you were our coach!” But GREAT JOY is his coaching as a ministry unto the Lord. Our scripture for 2017 carries with it more than simple expressions joy and satisfaction. It reveals the secret to GREAT JOY with his challenge: FEAR THE LORD ENDELESSLY... The fear of the Lord will be your treasure. Isaiah 33:6 NIV
SERVE THE LORD REGULARLY... She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. Proverbs 31:20
REMEMBER WHAT THE LORD HAS DONE CONTINUALLY.... The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy. Psalm 126:3 NIV
PRAYER: Today I commit to fear you endlessly, to serve you regularly and to always remember all that you have done for me. Thank you for your power, your plan and your purpose. Please help me to walk in them daily. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. CONSIDER TURNING YOUR PRESENT JOY... INTO “GREAT JOY”! ©2017 SPORTMOMS & MORE | 11964 Elemar - Portland, OR 97224 |
