A HARVEST OF BLESSING...

11/26/2014

Harvests precede our Thanksgiving celebration.  During the past year we have benefited from  the work of many hands as they prepare garden vegetables for us to enjoy, bring wholesome meats to market for our purchase, make a plethora of clothes for us to buy, and provide  safe, warm houses that we call home.  These people along with many others deserve  A HARVEST OF BLESSING..

The hard work of preparation is familiar to any athlete.  Doing what is needed to put a team on the field or court is second nature to a coach.  Allowing our athlete time for good practice and preparation for the team effort is what parents tirelessly offer.  The outcome is A HARVEST OF BLESSING as the season unfolds…aspirations being accomplished along with realized return for the effort.

The Apostle Paul writes these encouraging words about reaping A HARVEST OF BLESSING…

PRAYER:  Today I thank you for the many hands and it has taken for our provision.  Please grant them A HARVEST OF BLESSING.  Thank you for the rewards I have reaped when I don't give up on doing good things for others...a wonderful HARVEST OF BLESSING. In Your Son’s name, Amen

May your Thanksgiving celebrate A HARVEST OF BLESSING!

THE EXPERIENCE

In today’s world there are two obvious and often predictable human responses to the experiences that life offers.  We are motivated on the front side of a possibility by what could be.  Then the experience unfolds and along with it comes the much-needed understanding. Whether it is a tremendously successful experience or a complete disaster, the result is always a very large dose of reality.

“Idealism is what precedes experience and cynicism is what follows.”  David T; Wolfe

Preparing for competition, highly successful teams possess a great amount of idealism. We see it regularly in the eyes of the young, aspiring athletes as they watch their favorite college or professional team play.  Imagining themselves in the shoes of those players causes our youth sports programs to thrive.  It is followed with middle school and high school sport participation through which they develop a keen sense of understanding about their future.

This same process is reflected in our life journey.  We may have envisioned THE EXPERIENCE as one that would be perfect.  We get the perfect education, which will be followed by landing the perfect job, then finding the perfect spouse, having perfect children.  It doesn’t stop there,  we ideally dream of living in the perfect city in a perfect house and driving the perfect car to the perfect church each Sunday.  Our favorite scripture preceding all of this might have been …

“I have come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
John 10:10

As true as these words are, THE EXPERIENCE also brings with it the realities of life…college debt, stuck on a job ladder, a spouse that isn’t like me, less-than-perfect children, living across the country from where I planned in a much-too-small house while driving my 10-year-old car to an okay church when we have time.  Reality has set in and following it my favorite scripture may be…

I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.   Philippians 4:13

Both dreams and reality require trust in Christ.  Both bring a much-needed balance to THE EXPERIENCE of daily living.  Thankfully, as Christ followers cynicism is not the outcome.

May your life be filled with idealism, be tempered by understanding and result in abundance and strength.

IDEALISM + UNDERSTANDING = A CHRIST HONORING LIFE EXPERIENCE

CHOOSE WISDOM

11/12/2014

After leaving home for college my father wrote me a letter.  In it he revealed his trust in me with these words, “I know life will bring difficult situations, but you have always done what is right after you think about it for awhile.”  The underlined portion of his statement burned deep into my soul and has reminded me over and over again to CHOOSE WISDOM not reaction.

The sport world is based on a fine balance between reaction and wisdom.  The right action in a timely moment during fast-moving competition is key to achieving a goal.  When beautifully bred and well-trained horses race toward the finish line, the timely and wise moves of the Jockey make the difference between winning by a nose or losing by one.

There is an account found in I Samuel 24 that beautifully illustrates the CHOOSE WISDOM concept.  David was being chased by King Saul but there came a timely moment when David had the opportunity kill him.  Although David’s peers encouraged him to do it, David simply and secretly cut off a piece of Saul’s robe to prove he had the opportunity. Then, as Saul was leaving, David mercifully called out to him.  Showing him the piece of his garment, David bowed before Saul in submission saying, “I could not harm you because you are the Lord’s anointed.”  David’s God-like response was to CHOOSE WISDOM which impacted his whole future.

When those around us seek to influence us into earthly responses, we can opt for a heavenly response - Godly wisdom enabling us to express our true heart just as David did. Instead of taking opportunities to retaliate, we can choose to access the wisdom God offers to us…

“…the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.” James 3:17 NIV

LET GOD’S WISDOM WORK WONDERS IN YOU!

ADORING TOGETHER

11/5/2014

Note:  The first SPORTMOM E-votional of each month is dedicated to our word-for-the-year…ADORE.

It is very invigorating to be in a gathering of people who share a common interest.  Whether it is a class, hobby, or group of friends, the spirit of camaraderie is infectious and uplifting.  It spurs each participant on to bigger and greater accomplishments while establishing a binding relationship between them.

The love of a game is a common interest in sports.  Those who play together or share the same sport interest can talk for hours about strategies, past games, and future possibilities or watch endless videos and games on television.  Together they take great pleasure in the adoration of their chosen sport and team.

As Christ ones, we are encouraged to adore our God together.  King David put a call out to his people to do just that…

And David said to all the assembly, “Now adore (praise and thank) the Lord your God!”         1 Chronicles 20:10 Amplified

A room filled with people adoring our mighty God together is invigorating and uplifting.  Whether with music, testimonials or teaching, the experience establishes a binding relationship both with our Creator and with each other spurring us on to all He has for us to be and do.

Let's take a moment of adoration to our God as we raise our voices together singing,  “Holy, holy is our God almighty… it is You we adore!”
