The star, the angels, the tiny baby Jesus… oh, the wonder of it all! Seeing it through the wide eyes of a child brings back early memories of this most marvelous scene. Special gifts neatly wrapped in used breakfast cereal boxes…crunching through the snow to carol for shut-ins on Christmas Eve…singing, singing, singing about Jesus’ birth in both church and school Christmas programs…memorizing my one line in the Sunday School play and then refusing to go on stage to say it. All of this and much more caused me to FEEL THE WONDER of this holy season…something marvelous, something precious, something full of awe and something profound. When players take the field or floor for a game they often FEEL THE WONDER of where they are or who they are playing. With fans roaring and music amped up, the importance of the impending competition and their own insignificance envelopes them…a moment of pinching themselves wondering if this is real. An overwhelming awe grips each player and coach…a marvelous plan is about to unfold, something profound is about to happen and they are a part of it. Remember His marvelous works which He has done. I Chronicles 16:12 We, like the psalmist David, can FEEL THE WONDER of God’s marvelous plan coming to us as a baby. Who can resist a child among us entering the world arena in the quiet humility of a manger and greeted with a sky full of cheering and singing angels along with adoring shepherds on their knees? It was a wondrous sight, filled with unexpected awe … a profound gift to the world neatly wrapped in swaddling clothes. Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds.1 Chronicles 16:9 NLT “So it was that first Christmas night, when a mighty, all-knowing, all-powerful God wrote His name on the heart of humanity, stunning us with the generosity of forgiveness and the joy of unconditional love…can you feel the wonder?” Randy Kilgore KNOWING THE CHRIST OF CHRISTMAS BRINGS A WONDER-FILLED LIFE! ©2014 SPORTMOMS & MORE | 11964 Elemar - Portland, OR 97224 Today our year of focus on the word “ADORE” comes to a close. As we enter into the holy days of celebrating our Savior’s birth it is with shouts of Hallelujah that we bow before the manger bed of our Savior, Jesus the Christ. “Shout Hallelujah…adore him…He has never let you down, never looked the other way…He has been right there, listening.” Psalm 139:13-16 The Message The stands fill with shouts of adoration when a team makes a play that puts them ahead on the scoreboard. As invigorating and captivating as those moments are, there are also times when things don’t quite work out, a player is late in throwing or receiving a ball, or the game plan just isn’t happening. At this point our response may be a little less than adoring. Not so in the game plan of life that God has for us There will be times when things don’t go our way, days when things seem a little off and seasons when what we are doing seems hopeless. However in these times we fall to our knees and adore Him all the more for He knows the beginning from the end and He is listening…He is present! “I will never leave you or forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5b KJV Is the presence of Christ real in your life? Are you entrusting everything to Him? Do you know He is right there listening to each heart cry and engaged in your life? If so, you can truly shout “Hallelujah”. SIMPLY ADORE HIS PRESENCE! ©2014 SPORTMOMS & MORE | 11964 Elemar - Portland, OR 97224 Who is in charge of your thoughts? The television? The internet? A best friend? Dr. Phil? All of these may provide guidance, insight and strong direction. But none of them can actually control your thoughts…that is up to you! When an athlete takes the field or court the goal is to control their bodies and minds in such a way as to overcome their opponent. A sport team does the same – winning the game means taking the opponent captive by exercising strong and purposeful intentions. These thoughts are played out with overpowering control. Our thought life requires the same overpowering control. It is not the place for outside influences to determine the outcome. Paul, the apostle, addresses this issue in his second letter to the church at Corinth with these words… "We take every thought captive so that it is obedient to Christ." 2 Corinthians 10:5 The operative words here are “we take”. We ready ourselves to control our thought world by knowing and obeying the directives of Christ. But that isn’t enough. We must act on it by reeling our thoughts in, by closing the gate, by re-routing our thinking, and by checking ourselves (where we go, what we do and with whom). We are in charge of our thoughts…not having them, but what we do with them as they race across our minds. PRAYER: Lord, may the filter of self-control be ever present in my life as I take captive unnecessary thoughts. I confess that these have gotten in the way of your divine plan. Please forgive me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. THOUGHTS LIVED OUT SHOULD REFLECT OUR HEART! ©2014 SPORTMOMS & MORE | 11964 Elemar - Portland, OR 97224 |
