Welcome to the July issue of your SPORTMOM E-votional. During the summer months we focus on our word for 2017 - CONSIDER.
There is an old Gene Autry song that not only gives a description of what his home looks like but also describes how it feels. Consider these lyrics...
Home, home on the range - where the deer and the antelope play. Where seldom is heard a discouraging word… and the skies are not cloudy all day.
Encouragement is the binding factor...without it our homes just look good!
True team spirit happens in the context of encouragement. When practice time and game time are filled with clear directives and encouraging words both individual players and the team as a whole are ready to give their best in competition.
“The way to develop the best in someone is by appreciation and encouragement.” Charles Schwab (adapted)
God’s Word tells us to encourage one another. As a persecutor of Christians, the Apostle Paul encountered the risen Christ on a Damascus road and his heart turned towar them. He encouraged them with these words...
…speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you’ll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind. I know you’re already doing this; just keep on doing it. I Thessalonians 5:11 The Message
Offering an encouraging word often requires both patience and the intent to do good.
.
“...encouraging one another is a way of helping one another get a taste of the patience and goodness of God.” Mart DeHaan
PRAYER: Dear Father, please help me to encourage others with the same mercy and kindness that You offer me. Thank you for your patient love and gracious goodness toward me. In your Son’s name, Amen.
ENCOURAGEMENT SHAPES RELATIONSHIPS AND IMPACTS OUTCOMES!
