ULTIMATE CONFIDENCE

3/29/2017

Picture
Webster says that confidence is the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; a firm trust; the state of feeling certain about the truth of something.  It is a feeling of self-assurance arising from one's appreciation of one's own abilities or qualities.

A fine athlete is a confident athlete.  It is one who trusts in those who lead, believes in the plan ahead, has faith that the set goals will be met and does it all with courage and boldness.  The result is a display of worthy leadership both
on and off the field or court.

While enjoying the milk and honey of the promised  land, God’s chosen people., the Israelites, received a challenge from the prophet, Jeremiah, not to forget what they had come through to get to that land.  He reminded them that their ULTIMATE CONFIDENCE needs to remain in the living God if they don’t want to be like a dried up bush…

“…blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose CONFIDENCE IS in him.  They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.  It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8

ULTIMATE CONFIDENCE comes as we put our total trust in the One who made us.  A deep and abiding belief that He will take care of us overwhelms our spirit when we release our circumstances into His control. In turn we reflect a truly confident spirit because of His strength withinu s.

PRAYER:  Only you are invincible.  Thank you for making me, knowing me and loving me … I put my full confidence in you!

                  FOR ULTIMATE CONFIDENCE...
TRUST THE ONE WHO MADE YOU!

DUAL MESSAGE

3/22/2017

Picture
Recently coach and I took in an antique car display.  Not only were these driving machines buffed up to gleam brightly but many carried a message of power and class heard especially from those equipped with dual mufflers.  The rumble of the engine through, not one, but two tail pipes was both an invigorating and frightening sound to experience.

Like dual mufflers, a coach can be Invigorating and frightening at the same time.  When intensely correcting a team during a game time-out it can certainly be frightening but it is also a motivational invigoration…it’s a DUAL MESSAGE.

God’s Word also holds a DUAL MESSAGE for us…one of perfection and one of grace.

Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matt. 5:48  NIV

From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.  John 1:16 NRSV

“For years I felt so unworthy when considering Jesus’s absolute ideals that I missed any notion of His grace.”
Philip Yancey

This DUAL MESSAGE calls us to open ourselves to God’s perfecting power while being covered by His enormous grace. Ir eliminates the fear of imperfection while invigorating us in the process of perfection.

PRAYER:  I embrace your message of both perfection and grace today, LORD.  It is your power within me that will accomplish perfection and appropriate grace as I grow in you. Thank you for this DUAL MESSAGE that brings peace to my soul.  In Jesus’ Holy Name I  pray, Amen.

RECEIVE GOD’S MESSAGE OF DUAL POWER TODAY!

BRIGHT  LIGHTS

3/15/2017

Picture
Using high-beam headlights on darkened and unlit roads at night is a great help.  They can mean the difference in a safe trip or one that invites disaster.  They are there for our use if we let them brighten our path.  BRIGHT LIGHTS bring added knowledge to what lies ahead.

As our athletes compete, they become BRIGHT LIGHTS in their schools and communities.  Their strength, skill and ability become a benchmark for the younger crowd to emulate spurring on the dreams of many-a young on-looker and illuminating their path to future possibilities.

Jesus wants us to walk in the BRIGHT LIGHTS of His presence …

“I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”
John 8:12 NLT

As we follow Christ, His BRIGHT LIGHT will permeate our pathway.

Because of Christ’s BRIGHT LIGHT, we can become BRIGHT LIGHTS to the world around us…

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:16

PRAYER:   I choose to let your bright light shine through me, through my past mistakes and blunders and out into a dark world that needs your light.  In Jesus Name, Amen.

BE A SHINING LIGHT - TURN ON HIS BRIGHTS!

FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT

3/8/2017

Picture
Most of us prefer light over dark.  With a flip of the switch we turn on a light in our home, car or place of business. Why do we prefer it?  Light enables us to see where we are bringing with it a sense of security and assistance.

When darkness is penetrated with light things around us are plain to see.

Playing a game of basketball or volleyball in a poorly-lit gym is both difficult and dangerous.  Bright and penetrating lights are a must in order to keep the players safe, for the coach to see what is going on and for the fans to enjoy the game.

In the book of John we find this passage challenging us to remain in the light…

This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.  But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.              John 3:19-21 NIV

As Christ followers we have been called into the light of Christ.  His light of truth fully-exposes our dimly-lit deeds.  Our true motives are uncovered and our relationship with God the Father is revealed.  To be in relationship with God through Christ we must respond to His call out of our darkness.

"God in His mercy calls us out of our darkness and invites us to follow Him in the light." Mart DeHaan

PRAYER:  I step into your light, dear Father.  Let every corner of my life be brightly lit so darkness can be overcome. May the light of your presence reveal my darkness.  I submit myself to you.  In Jesus’ Holy Name, Amen.

OVERCOME DARKNESS - SWITCH ON THE LIGHT OF                                  GOD’S PRESENCE!

CONSIDER...GREAT JOY!

3/1/2017

Picture

THE FIRST SPORTMOM E-votional of each month is dedicated to our word for the year...CONSIDER.

VERSE FOR THE YEAR:  But be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you.
  1 Samuel 12:24 NIV

Elation and expectation accompany the highest forms of joy.  As we consider the great things that have come to us through the years, we must also consider the not-so-great things that have often turned our path toward pure joy.

It’s an understood fact in sport competition that losses tend to prepare a team for greater wins down the road.  Turning a bitter moment into an epic learning experience can mean the difference between future losses or wins.

We can choose to face troubles with elation and expectation or with defeat and disappointment…

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. James 1:2 NLT

Opportunities that are ahead can only be realized if we learn the lesson and move forward…

But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead… Philippians 3:13 NIV

Joy is ours when good things come our way, but GREAT JOY comes when we walk through troubles, trusting Jesus and  watching with elation and expectation for what lies ahead.

PRAYER:  I want to consider it all great joy, Lord.  Thank you for your presence and your strength. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

GREAT JOY IS OURS THROUGH CHRIST!
