CANNOT CONTAIN IT

12/19/2018

Experiencing something that we are thrilled about usually includes sharing it with friends, family and anyone who is interested...and sometimes even with uninterested parties.  We simply CANNOT CONTAIN IT!

A much-sought-after win in an important game brings with it that same excitement.  Coaches, players, fans and sport moms/dads all share in the revelry.  The newspapers and media may even cover it interviewing outstanding players and they all share it in their sphere of influence.  All of these people simply CANNOT CONTAIN IT!

The shepherds in the story of Christ’s birth experienced a breath-taking thrill.  First they received the announcement from the heavenly hosts of the awaited Christ child’s birth.  It was not only a great surprise to them but it caused them to leave their sheep and go to where they were told they would find him...

“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.  This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Luke 2:11 & 12  NIV

This good news would bring great joy!  The shepherds went, they saw, they could not contain it...

After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child.  All who heard the shepherds’ story were astonished!
  Luke 2:17 & 18 NLT

The shepherds were the first to tell the world the good news of Jesus’ birth.  With the same enthusiasm we announce His presence to our world telling them how and where they can find Him...we simply CANNOT CONTAIN IT!

PRAYER:  Thank you, Lord, for announcing your birth into our world to the shepherds.  Let me share this same good news in my world today because I CANNOT CONTAIN IT!
In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

                   SHOUT OUT THE GOOD NEWS...
                YOU SIMPLY CANNOT CONTAIN IT!

GLORIOUS GUIDANCE

12/12/2018

To be guided is often appreciated long after it happens.  Guidance can come in the form of gentle encouragement or loud warnings.  However it comes to us, most likely we find ourselves thanking the one who provided it for our safety or for leading us toward our life purpose.

Coaches are in the business of guiding young men and women toward immediate or long-term goals. Directives given to the team and individual players are meant to lead to a positive end of season. Pouring out their gifts of game knowledge, experience and commitment, coaches take the long trek of molding a team into all they can be.

God revealed his GLORIOUS GUIDANCE by setting a very bright star in the heavens.  This Star of Bethlehem led three very wise kings on a long journey to the promised Christ child.  Pouring out their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh they bowed to worship this long-awaited gift from heaven!

“... And the star they had seen in the east guided them to Bethlehem. It went ahead of them and stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were filled with joy!”  Matthew 2:9-10 NLT

We too can be led by a bright star of stars set within us...the Holy Spirit.  Christ’s birth and death put this in motion providing mankind with God’s GLORIOUS GUIDANCE. A bright hope, encouraging us toward what we were designed to be and do is available to those who believe in the Christ child as God’s son and our Savior.  This is what Jesus said...

“But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.”  John 14:26 NLT

PRAYER:  Thank you for your GLORIOUS GUIDANCE today.  Your Holy Spirit lights up my life from within pointing the way you have planned for me. Just as the Star of Bethlehem led the Wise Men, I will look to your promised Holy Spirit to lead me.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

LET THE STAR OF STARS LEAD YOU!

PURSUE CHRIST this CHRISTMAS

12/5/2018

Picture
Today we celebrate the final entry for our 2018 WORD – PURSUE!  Our verse for the year reminds us that Christ pursued us by coming to this earth and challenges us to us to look beyond our life here…

Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand
.  Colossians 3:1 NLT

We purposefully PURSUE CHRIST by celebrating his birth.  Leaving deity and becoming man he came to live out His Father’s plan for us. To honor His birth we attend special concerts, go to special dinners, give to those in need etc.

Here are some small ways that we can PURSUE CHRIST this Christmas by…

  • Sending Christmas greetings reminds us that God sent His only Son to us.
  • Decorating our homes reminds us of how God decorates our life with His glory.
  • Hanging the ornaments on the tree reminds us that Christ hung on the cross for my sin.
  • Wrapping each gift reminds us that God’s gift to us came wrapped in swaddling clothes.
  • Enjoying the presence of friends and family during the holidays reminds us of how much we need God’s continual presence in our lives.
  • Anxiously Awaiting Christmas morning reminds us to set our sights on the time when we will be forever with Christ.

PRAYER:  Dear Father in heaven, thank you for raising me to new life because you sent your Son to this world. I will set my sights on Christ during this Christmas season.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

BLESSINGS...
AS YOU PURSUE CHRIST THIS CHRISTMAS!
