A WORD TO THE WEARY

9/28/2016

Receiving an encouraging word from someone can light up a dark corner of our life.  It propels us on through the tough time permeating our soul with hope and strength.

Athletes need a word of encouragement when they face the slump times of training and competition.  These words often come from those close to them.  It can be as simple as a whispered, “You can do this!”  Or leaving special note scrawled on a bathroom mirror saying, “I’m proud of you!”  It is these small, yet impacting, responses carry them on to their next assignment and on to their ultimate goal.

"Most of us, swimming against the tides of trouble the world knows nothing about, need only a bit of praise or encouragement - and we will make the goal."  Robert Collier

The prophet Isaiah talked of about bringing A WORD TO THE WEARY…

The Sovereign Lord has given me his words of wisdom, so that I know how to comfort the weary.  Isaiah 50:4 NLT

Look for opportunities to carry a word of encouragement to the weary in your world today.  It will bring hope to the soul of another and health to your own.

PRAYER:  Thank you for comforting me through other’s words of wisdom. Please open my eyes and ears to those around me who are weary.  May my words of encouragement to others carry your Word deep into their hearts.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

OFFER A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT TO A WEARY SOUL TODAY!

DESTINY IN DOING

9/21/2016

Our destiny is a hidden treasure.  Discovering and operating in our destiny is a life-long process. Doing what we are put on this earth to do can be challenging while leading us to our destiny. The revealed result of realizing our destiny is both richly rewarding and deeply satisfying.

As sportmoms we stay the course not only to fulfill our own destiny, but to mold our athlete children into theirs…an eternal and serious responsibility.

“Destiny is no matter of chance…not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.”  William Jennings Bryan

You were created to make an eternal impact on this earth. You’ve been given a destiny of good works that are incredibly important and wholly unique...

...you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. I Peter 2:9

Making an eternal impact is all about you becoming and living out who you are in Christ Jesus.  It’s adopting the new creation that you have become through your belief and trust in Him.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.  Ephesians 2:10.

PRAYER:  No one else can do what you have made me to do, Lord.  You created me for a unique purpose that is solely mine to fulfill.  I trust you to equip and empower me in order to accomplish this task.  As I walk in my destiny may your name by lifted up. In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen.

MAKE AN IMPACT FOR CHRIST…DECIDE TO DO YOUR DESTINY!

INWARD-OUTWARD-UPWARD-FORWARD

9/14/2016

Picture
With the school year in full swing, new schedules, exciting opportunities and binding commitments surround us.  Inwardly our hopes are high.  Outwardly we are poised for upward movement.

Your athlete experiences these same responses as they prepare for a season of competition.  Inwardly they have dreams and expectations for strong performance.  Outwardly they prepare through practice, skill development and training.

Beyond the INWARD desires and OUTWARD actions are the actual results.  When these fall short of the expected outcome or are realized, it’s time to look UPWARD. Thanking our loving God for the realization of our hopes as well as for any shortfalls that may have come our way brings us to a place of peace and purpose…

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.   Philippians 4:6 & 7 NIV

Are on-going concerns bottled up inside of you causing worry and fret?  Are your outward activities creating pressure or undue pain?  Take pause and send your inward and outward responses UPWARD to the One who promises to carry you through.

“A little lifting of the heart suffices; a little remembrance of God, one act of inward worship are our prayers which, however short, are nevertheless acceptable to God.”
  Brother Lawrence

AN UPWARD LOOK BRINGS A LIFTED HEART!

ABOUND...in HOPE!

9/7/2016

Picture
Another year of SPORTMOM E-votionals is at the starting line … our 9th year of publication!  God initiated this endeavor with a quiet READY-SET-GO kind of prompting.  Without fanfare or expectation the first issue targeting Moms of athletes was distributed.  I was not “ready” nor was I “set” and the “go” was more like a shove!  Nevertheless and abounding in hope, SPORTMOM E-votionals was launched!

Sometimes the beginning of a school year feels more like a scramble than a purpose-filled READY-SET-GO. We hope it will all work out but preparations give way to procrastination, pulling things together falls prey to problems and we find ourselves shoved into the first weeks of a new school year.  We certainly want to have a good “GO” but a delayed “READY-SET” can threaten our much-anticipated “GO” causing us to lose our much-needed grip on things.

“Before you can win a game, you have to not lose it.”
Chuck Noll, ex-Pittsburgh Steelers Coach

To keep a firm grip on our “Ready-Set-Go” process our hope needs to be securely anchored in God’s provision and not just in our own strength. His Word tells us that He wants us to meet life’s challenges with our trust in Him and through His sustaining power.

Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Spirit.  Romans 15:14 KJV

Another version of this verse says it this way: “May the God of your hope so fill you with all joy and peace in believing [through the experience of your faith] that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound and be overflowing (bubbling over) with hope.” (Amplified)

PAUSE:  Ask God to fill you with hope that bubbles over with readiness and overflows with being “set to go” into this new school year.  Then "go" forward as He shoves you into His abounding joy and peace.

                                           READY-SET-GO … ABOUND IN HOPE!
