DIZZYING QUESTIONS

11/28/2018

Picture
“How to” questions lurk in our heads.  We can easily find answers using the technology we have at our fingertips.  Facebook friends often ask questions like, “Gum got stuck on my favorite dress – anybody know how to get it off?”  Media commercials even provide answers to questions we never had.  We also turn to our own past experience to give us a clue to answers for new questions that pop up.

To develop a sport team coaches must answer an array of questions like these…
  • How many players will I need?
  • How can I put each player in the best position?
  • How can I encourage each individual player?
These questions (and many more) are addressed as each new season rolls around.  The answers cannot be found on through social media, Rather, they are discovered through applying past experience to present knowledge.
As sportmoms our most desired goal is to develop our child into the person God intends them to be.  Questions about how to accomplish this can be dizzying. Thankfully God’s Word gives us “how to” answers for our DIZZYING QUESTIONS and for our children’s encouragement.  Here are a few…

  • How to experience a fulfilling life…
Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hear the Word of          God and obey it.” Luke 11:28 NIV

  • How to make wise choices…
Jesus said -   “...everyone who hears these words of          mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man            who built his house on the rock.”  Mathew 7:24 NV

  • How to successfully communicate with my child/parents…                                                                                                       The unfolding of your words sheds light; it gives understanding to the simple. Psalm 119:130 NIV

  • How to stay on the path that God has planned…                “I have hidden your Word in my heart that I might not     sin against you.”  Psalm 119:9 & 11 NIV

PRAYER:  Thank you for your Word...I commit myself to living out your answers with it as my guide.  Please teach me how to direct my children to live out your Word.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
                                    YOUR WORD –
A LAMP TO MY FEET AND A LIGHT TO MY WAY!

OPENLY THANKFUL-QUIETLY GIVE

11/21/2018

A thank-filled life makes a happy life...

“A spirit of thankfulness is one of the most distinctive marks of a Christian whose heart is attuned to the Lord.”  Billy Graham

The Thanksgiving gathering is a perfect place to express our thankfulness not only for the food but for one another.  Whether it is around a table or in the course of conversation, remembering and sharing what another has meant to us will warm both the giver’s heart and the receiver’s.

A giving life completes a happy life...

Another way of giving from a thankful heart is to surprise someone with an unexpected kindness - a pay it forward kind of living...

There was a struggling college student who went to the grocery store to purchase food for the week. Knowing that she may not have enough money she was prepared to leave the green peppers if needed.  Sure enough, she discarded them telling the cashier that she didn’t have enough money for them.  Heading toward her car, groceries in hand, a fellow customer walked up to her handing her a bag and saying, “Here are your peppers.” When she looked up to thank him he was quickly walking away.

Jesus encourages us to give quietly...
When you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.  Matthew 6:3

LET YOUR LIFE BE FULL OF BOTH
                             THANKS AND GIVING!

BEYOND ME!

11/14/2018

Picture

Have you seen something come out of nothing?  Magicians seem to do this with hats, scarves, rabbits, etc. Our world is full of 1 + 1 = 2 thinking.  But what if 1 + 1 equals 10 or 20 or 30?  It is BEYOND ME to comprehend.

The potential of a team of athletes can far exceed the collective skill among them.  Coaches are often the magician behind this phenomenon.  When this kind of breath-taking play is observed, gasps of unbelief ripple through the crowd of fans bursting into roaring screams of pleasure.  It is far beyond their wildest imagination.

There was a woman whose husband died.  The bill collectors came after her for a very large some of money owed.  Broke and desperate, she went to her pastor for advice explaining that they were going to take her two sons away from her to work off the debt. Her pastor asked what she had in her house that she could sell to which she answered, “Nothing, except a very small amount of much-sought-after olive oil.”

The pastor then directed her to collect as many empty jars as she could from wherever she could and take them to her house.  Then she and her sons were to pour the oil she had into the jars filling each one at a time and setting it aside.  She did as he said and when the last jar was filled the oil stopped flowing.  She excitedly reported this to her pastor with heart-felt amazement. Then the pastor pointed out what was beyond her comprehension...
“Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.”
  2 Kings 4:7 NIV

What demands in life making on you right now?  Just like the widow above, we can access God’s wisdom and lean on His strength.  When we pour out what we have He amazes us with His powerful presence until our “jars are full and sold.”

PRAYER:  Dear Father, today I ask for your wisdom in my situation.  I will do what you say and entrust the outcome to you...it is far BEYOND ME. Thank you for your presence.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

                         IT MAY BE BEYOND ME...
BUT IT’S NOT BEYOND MY HEAVENLY FATHER!

PURSUE GIVING LIVING

11/7/2018

Picture
Getting is a way of life for us. We look for the “deals” and run after them.  We trade in that which is still good for something we think is better. We spend countless hours on line looking at what is available to get.  I wonder what would happen if I spent the same number of hours looking for how much I could give away…hmmm???

On the courts and fields of sports we see the pursuit of getting…getting the win, getting the highest score, getting a new personal best and so on. What we may not always see is what was given that resulted in the getting.  The hours of practice, preparation, planning and participation invested by athletes and coaches is what brings them to the getting…it is a give-to-live kind of process. The marking of a coach or athlete who PURSUES GIVING-LIVING is this:  They recognize their God-given skill-set for and compete with a deep appreciation of the game...not merely for the win!

It has been said, “We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.”

God's Word reminds us to generously and cheerfully give …not for what we might get, but for the pure satisfaction of giving.

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.                                 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 NIV

PRAYER:  To openhandedly PURSUE GIVING-LIVING is my heart’s desire, Lord.  I want to demonstrate my trust in and thankfulness for your endless provision. You have given me time, skills, encouraging words, money, things etc. and I will give these away to others for your sake and in your Son’s name, Amen.

GET LIFE - GIVE BECAUSE YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN!
