Our August summer-schedule E-votional focuses on our Word for 2016 – ABOUND.
“Keep on keeping on,” my precious, God-fearing grandmother would say. Her family was large so the great depression of the early 1930’s had made life difficult. As the 1940’s approached it became necessary for all able-bodied family members to work in the fields of Colorado. Although it was wearisome, without abounding in this good work the family would have suffered greatly. Because they “all pitched in” they not only had food, clothing and a roof over their heads but also developed a work ethic that has given them long and prosperous lives.
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. Galatians 6:9 KJV
Sport teams and athletes know that to attain more wins than losses they must keep on keeping on. Regular and challenging workouts are the key to steady improvement. Slacking off opens the door to weakness compromising the possibilities of meeting that goal.
"It's not the will to win that matters - everyone has that. It's the will to prepare to win that matters." Coach Bear Bryant, University of Alabama football coach known as “the winningest coach ever”.
It’s not the will to go to heaven that matters, it’s the will to prepare for it that matters. God’s blessing is with His children promising us that we will be able tackle the work before us…
And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:8 NIV
Our responsibility is to do the work that God has set before us with our ultimate goal in mind – heaven.
…be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, for your labor is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58
Just as God promised the Israelite people so long ago, He rewards our work with blessings that we may not see now but will realize in the future…
For the Lord your God will bless you in all your harvest and in all the work of your hands, and your joy will be complete. Deuteronomy 16:15 NIV
PRAYER: May the work of my hands, oh LORD, be your work. I will abound in it and take joy in it. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
COMPLETE YOUR JOY – ABOUND IN YOUR WORK!
