Whether the game or competition begins with the kick off, the jump ball, the pop of a gun, or a whistle, the start has a marked beginning. With the signal the athletes know that it is time to roll into full competition. Their goal is to win the victor's medal!
As a flight attendant in my early twenties, we were ready to take off when the captain directed us to take our seats. With a swell of the engines and passengers safely strapped in their seats, we would collapse into our jump seats for the impending ascent into blue skies and bright sun headed for faraway places. Each passenger aboard had a different reason for being on the flight…work, vacation, visiting relatives or friends. None, however, bought a ticket for the flight just to ride on a plane…each had A REASON BEYOND THE RIDE.
Paul wrote to the church in Thessalonica telling the believers there that he was praying for the teachings of Christ to spread rapidly into other areas. The goal was for the Gospel to take off much like a ready-to-roll athlete at the beginning of a race.
Pray that the Master’s Word will simply TAKE OFF and race through the country to a groundswell of response, just as it did among you. 2 Thessalonians 3:1 The Message
Our lives are referred to in the Bible as a race with a marked beginning and a sure end. They are set in advance for us to run with great stamina and purpose…a clear reason to be on the ride.
…and run with perseverance the race marked out for you! Hebrews 12:1b NIV
Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown. Revelation 2:10b NIV
PRAYER: LORD, may your Word take off in my heart as I run the race of life you have set before me. Thank you for leading me to your purpose. In Jesus Name, Amen.
A LIFE DEDICATED TO CHRIST HAS A REASON BEYOND THE RIDE!
