distinguishes them from their opponent while ADORNING them with their identity. The athlete proudly wears this look-alike uniform of the team to which they belong.
The ADORNING of our homes in celebration of the Christmas holiday is on our minds these days. Outside the lights are put up accompanied by the "why did they work when we put them away and now they don't" dilemma, displays are placed on the grass, and the ever-present front door wreath is hung. All of these announce our intention to celebrate the season. Inside finds at least one tree to be trimmed with carefully preserved ornaments, holiday tables to be set, gifts to be wrapped and placed under the tree, baking to be done...on and on it goes with only Santa's list rivaling our own.
Our decorated homes remind me of how God's forever home is adorned...
Your statutes, LORD, stand firm; holiness adorns your house for endless days. Psalm 93:5
"Just as holiness is what "adorns" the house of the Lord…holiness should be what "adorns" our house as well." Coach Joe Gibbs
ADORNING of our homes with holy living is another way of decorating them. How we help one another, speak to one another, and treat one another are examples of the ornaments of holiness. They add endless beauty to our well-appointed houses and they remain long after the Christmas decorations come down announcing to the world whose we are.
What better gift can we give to our Creator than to ADORN our homes with the holy livinginess of God himself? As we decorate our homes may all who enter experience His holy presence. And as we adorn our hearts with His holiness may it reflect the forever team to which we belong.
...holy lives will mature and adorn the kingdom of their Father. Matthew 13:43 The Message
