As 2015 comes to a close we stand on the brink of the year of our Lord, 2016. What will it bring? Will it be the same old-same old or carry with it new and unfamiliar challenges to explore and conquer? The answers to these questions can only come as the days, weeks and months of the New Year unfold before us.
There is, however, something we can do to prepare for the unknown ahead. This something is ours to establish and ours to use. It is the decision to be a BRIGHT LIGHT wherever we are!
An old hymn written by Ira Ogden in 1913 was intended to remind us that that there are vast opportunities to brighten our world that lie beyond the pulpit and the mission field. As a public school teacher, she had dreams of being an evangelist. But her ailing father in need of care, re-directed her life and she expressed what she learned in these words…
Do not wait until some deed of greatness you may do,
Do not wait to shed your light afar,
To the many duties ever near you now be true,
Brighten the corner where you are.
Brighten the corner where you are, Brighten the corner where you are – Someone far from harbor you may guide across the bar… Brighten the corner where you are!
It was Christ in Ira that lit her way...
The bright light of Christ makes your way plain. So no more stumbling around. Get on with it! Ephesians 5:9+ The Message
Whatever 2016 may bring, we can bring the BRIGHT LIGHT of Jesus into our world.
PRAYER: Lord, open my eyes to the needs of those around me. Help me to be a BRIGHT LIGHT- a passionately creative problem-solver - that blesses others. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
GO AND GLOW WITH THE BRIGHT LIGHT OF CHRIST IN YOU!
