In the sport of basketball the team huddle is the ultimate group hug. Some teams have a ritual with such things as locking arms and gradually swaying back and forth faster and faster showing their unified spirit and intention. Pre-game huddles often include a shout out accompanied by a group high-five that announces their intention to be a force with which to be reckoned.
Wherever we find ourselves, a group is usually part of our life landscape. Sometimes it is defined and we know the constituency well. Sometimes it is by casual association only. No matter the case, as the group comes together for a cause the result will be greater than one doing it alone.
Jesus came to put a team in motion - the "Church". This group would come together in a proverbial group hug ready to present God's love to a lost world.
Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. Romans 12:4-5
Each member of a team, group or body of believers is both necessary and needed. Each belongs to and affects the other. Each joining with the others becomes one strong force to present the gospel, complete a project or play a game.
It is the togetherness of a group hug that prepares us and those around us for the work before us. Whatever group you find yourself a part of, be sure to enjoy a group hug that shouts we can do it!
Blessings . . . as you hug your group!
