Coaches also have a responsibility to RIGHTLY DIVIDE. When it comes to setting the roster for the upcoming season of play, they must choose not only who will be on the team but who will take the lead positions for the team. This process is in place in an effort to present the strongest team however it comes with the tough decision of who to eliminate. Keeping too many players can severely limit playing time, while keeping too few can mean running short of players before the season ends. A wrong decision here can adversely affect an entire season of play.
When it comes to living out our faith, how do we RIGHTLY DIVIDE God's Word? Mishandling of scripture can result in unwitting misrepresentation if God's character. The Apostle Paul challenged his protégé, Timothy, with these words…
“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15
As representatives of Christ, it is our responsibility to live out God’s Word. We prepare for this responsibility by faithfully studying His inspired Word. As His Holy Spirit opens our eyes, we gain the insight, understanding and wisdom necessary to RIGHTLY DIVIDE the Word of truth.
Offering only a “morsel”of who God is, can take away important parts of His character. In the same manner, adding to scripture only serves to complicate who He is - two candy bars can be toxic! Consider what John wrote in the book of Revelations…
If anyone adds anything to these words, God will add to that person the disasters written about in this book. And if anyone takes away from the words of this book of prophecy, God will take away that one's share of the tree of life and of the holy city, which are written about in this book. Revelations 22:18-19
What a sobering thought...a difficult challenge in today’s information-driven world.
GOD’S WORD IS A NO SPIN ZONE!
Blessings…as you RIGHTLY DIVIDE the candy bars of God’s Word.
