The world is full of clatter and chatter. Noisy gongs and clanging cymbals surround us. Phones beep, alarms awaken, horns honk, sirens warn, music blares, and media incessantly informs. A time for silence is illusive but necessary.
Silence is needed for golfers as they deliver their swing…a non-interrupted quietness that allows time for fully focused attention. Any crowd noise can turn into an unwanted ending like in a sandtrap or a slice etc. Silence is golden.
There is awkward silence that can be deafening and awe-struck silence that speaks volumes.
“Silence can be valuable - don’t break it unless you can improve on it.” (unknown)
Jesus remained silent at a time when so much could have been said…
But when the leading priests and the elders made their accusations against him, Jesus remained silent. Matthew 27:12 NLT
Sometimes God is silent with no seeming response to us...
“Don’t quit in the quietness – ask God what He is doing. There is never a time when God is doing nothing – embrace the silence and sing in it.” Max Lucado
PRAYER: Thank you for your silence, Lord. I will trust you in it and sing. Help me to practice sweet silence before You and with others when I should. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
