SPORTMOM E-votional "A TOUGH REACH"

6/22/2013

June summer supplement highlighting our "2013 WORD OF THE YEAR - REACH"...

This first month of my summer vacation brought A TOUGH REACH.  My 89-year-old father was hospitalized three times in 9 days with congestive heart failure issues.  Being the primary care giver for my parents, the role of advocate became necessary and vital as I interfaced with doctors, hospital staff and family members. Wishing I could just sit beside him and enjoy being in his presence would have been my choice as his daughter.  However as his advocate I had a pre-determined task to fulfill…and it was a privilege!
                                                    ADVOCACY IS A PRIVILEGE!

One of the not-so-obvious roles of a coach is to be an advocate for the athletes he/she coaches.  Supporting a player on and off the court or field is not only a responsibility but a privilege.  Advocacy can be A TOUGH REACH when the player is in a slump and not performing up to the expected potential.  But there is no greater way of expressing care, concern and love for a team member than to go to bat for them when they are in need of support, encouragement and direction
.

ADVOCACY IS A SIGN OF LOVING CARE!

As I ponder the advocacy role, my thoughts go to A TOUGH REACH offered to mankind when Jesus Christ chose to be our advocate before our Heavenly Father.  His journey to advocacy meant leaving heaven, coming to earth, walking among mankind, dying on a cruel cross, rising from the dead and ascending back to heaven.  There He pleads our case before God the Father as our advocate …

My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous.  I John 2:1 NLT
                                                  EVERYONE NEEDS AN ADVOCATE!

Not only did God provide us with advocacy in heaven, but He also provides an advocate for us as we journey through life here on this earth…

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John 14:26 NIV

I am eternally grateful for the advocacy provided by Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.  It carries me through my life journey…protecting, guiding and preparing me to be in the eternal presence of the lover of my soul forever!

Blessings as you …Allow God’s “advocacy reach”  to fill your weakened soul.

...Make that TOUGH REACH to be someone’s advocate today!
