THE RELEASE

Sport games require THE RELEASE.  A football passed for a touchdown requires a release of the ball to another player who is in a position to score.  A basketball passed to a well-placed team mate for a scoring shot requires a release of the ball. A baseball pitcher must do the same…release the ball in hopes that a strike out, fly ball caught or base out can occur.  Volleyball players must serve the ball so it can be volleyed for scoring opportunities.

I once had the privilege of sharing the speaking stage with Corrie ten Boom.  As a victim of the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, she survived to tell her story of faith and dependence on God during horrendous suffering. She was well-acquainted with loss as her family, possessions and years of life were taken from her by hate-filled hands. That day she spoke powerfully about the importance of THE RELEASE…

“I have held many things in my hands and I have lost them all; but whatever I have placed in God’s hands, that, I still possess.”

Releasing our concerns into God’s hands requires this question:  What lack I yet?  Jesus was once asked that question by a man who desired eternal life.  Jesus’ lovingly outlined the required release…

Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”  Mark 10:21 NIV

Knowing what we lack – what we need to release into God’s care - is vital to the game of life in Christ. Take a moment to ask our Heavenly Father what you need to release in order to follow Him with an eternity-driven life.

PRAYER:  Thank You for showing me what I need to set aside. I willingly place into your hands that which takes my thoughts and purposes away from You.  I will follow You all the days of my life to the treasured goal of eternity with You. In Jesus Name, Amen

"Throw the whole weight of your anxieties upon Him, for you are His personal concern."         1 Peter 5:7 Phillips

‘Tis good to have a heart at peace…'Tis good to know the calm release  –                            That comes when Heav’n has filled the soul...                                                                        Has cleansed the heart and made it whole. unattributed

                                             WANT ETERNAL TREASURE?  RELEASE!
